Earlier this month NatWest launched their Pre-Accelerator Programme for members of the Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic groups a first of its kind in the UK. It is hoped that upon its success this programme will eventually be rolled out across the country.

Sparked by a round table meeting which I was invited to attend by Nick Howe from NatWest. The meeting was attended by Ross McEwan (the CEO of RBS) late last year where he met with some of the leading social entrepreneurs from the black community to ask;

“ In what ways could NatWest do more to support businesses and entrepreneurs from the BAME community?”.

A number of suggestions were made. I asked if NatWest would look at working in partnership if an exciting project could be developed. The idea was not rejected and Ross assured us that these ideas would be developed into a pilot project. Approximately six months later and here we are – The RACE Programme.

If you would like to read the full blog which provides information on the the NatWest commissioned report study which revealed that in London people from the BAME Community were twice as likely to start a Business than their white counterparts.

Our role within this project was to provide quality candidates to the programme through our Grow Personal Success – Mind Reset Programme. The Pre-Accelerator Programme although free, is valued at approximately £1,500 and NatWest wanted candidates that would benefit from this eight week programme. Our delegates comprised approximately 20% of the total number of delegates so we will keep you posted over the eight weeks on the progress during the programme.

In addition to this new initiative I am currently developing an even bigger programme which will extend to support creative entrepreneurs, as well as being supported by other partners including my Business mentor, Errol Abramson, who is a billionaire and has run 47 companies successfully.

Our shared vision is for Errol and I to support a minimum of 100 Entrepreneurs through providing personal as well as business coaching, to help figure out:

  • Why YOU want and need a business
  • What your BUSINESS needs in order to be profitable and grow
  • What your banking requirements are and help you put them in place. Errol illustrated the importance of this to me through a story he told me during one of our sessions.

The story was about one of his associates who was doing very well in his business turning over 1 million dollars a month. All was well until this gentleman decided to approach his bank asking for a loan of a substantial amount to start a new business. He was declined and could not understand why and was about to give up on the business venture when Errol stepped in.

Errol was able to advise him explaining that a loan was not what he needed but simply a credit line. He offered further advice on how to re-present his vision to his bank and another banking institution. The result, he got not 1 but 2 credit lines, was able to start the business and is now operating another business turning over several million a year.

As an investor in people I am excited about the development of this and other projects being developed with these and other partners including an organisation that provides non-refundable grants to social entrepreneurs of between £5,000 and £15,000, as well as a few individuals looking to provide “smart investment” for new, exciting and promising businesses.

Earlier this month we launched the DADA Scholarship fund of £100,000 to invest in those willing to take the next steps on their journey to Personal, Professional and Business SUCCESS.
